CALLIOPE CAL 3030
SESSIONS, LIVE

© James A. Harrod, COPYRIGHT PROTECTED; ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

LIGHTHOUSE ALL STARS / JULIE LONDON – BUD SHANK QUARTET / CHRIS CONNOR

Side two of Calliope CAL 3030 once again contained tracks that had been issued on previous Calliope LPs.  The Bud Shank Quartet tracks had been issued on CAL 3013 and the Chris Connor tracks had been issued on CAL 3002.  The production scripts for these previous releases will not be repeated here and can be found in the entires for each of the albums noted.

The Stars of Jazz show that featured the Lighthouse All Stars devoted considerable air time to recognizing Howard Rumsey’s role in launching “west coast jazz” and the non-stop nine year history of the Lighthouse Cafe as a home for jazz and the All Stars.  Bobby Troup also noted that Howard had branched out with his Lighthouse Record Company and promoted their first release, JAZZ ROLLS ROYCE.

Bobby Troup also devoted considerable air time to introducing Julie London, noting her past career in movies, her LIFE magazine cover, and her latest album for Liberty Records, JULIE.
