BUDDY COLLETTE / LES THOMPSON - BUDDY COLLETTE / ABBEY LINCOLN

The October 10, 1957 issue of Down Beat published a short article announcing that KABC was working with Dick Bock at Pacific Jazz to explore the possibility of releasing audio from the Stars of Jazz programs on record in a Pacific Jazz series to be titled Bobby Troup’s Stars of Jazz Series. The article stated that Bock did not anticipate any problems in working out the contractual requirements with recording companies that guest jazz artists were under contract to at the time of their appearance on Stars of Jazz.

The record series never appeared on the Pacific Jazz label and we can assume that Bock was not able to reach an equitable agreement for the series to proceed, a harbinger of difficulties that Calliope would encounter twenty years later.
