SESSIONS, LIVE

OSCAR PETERSON / PAT HEALY - LEROY VINNEGAR / JERI SOUTHERN

It is unfortunate that the organization behind Calliope Records was not able to negotiate the clearances required to sustain a continuing release program on LP.  The mastering from the original Stars of Jazz master tapes was done professionally and the art director responsible for creating the album covers came up with a unique approach calling the series SESSIONS LIVE.  The format with a large photograph of a musical instrument beneath the album title and artists gave the series a look that was fresh and distinct from other jazz LPs on the market at the time.  The pressings were on high quality vinyl, all told, a winning combination.  Given the range of dates and artists selected for release it is evident that the producers had access to dozens of the original master tapes.  Unfortunate indeed!
