COUNT BASIE / JOE WILLIAMS - ART BLAKEY / TOMMY GUMINA

The program with Count Basie was rebroadcast on channel 7 television and that repeat of the program might have added to the difference in numbering the programs as seen in our presentation of program numbers and the number noted on the Stars of Jazz scripts.

The Armed Forces Radio and Television Services licensed over one hundred Stars of Jazz programs for release on transcription discs as noted in a previous post.  The early AFRTS transcriptions used the introductory music played by the guest instrumental jazz group with a voice over introduction added by the transcription service.  Later releases in the AFRTS transcription series used a Billy May arrangement of Bobby Troup’s LEMON DROP.
