SESSIONS, LIVE

ANDRE PREVIN / SHELLY MANNE / RED MITCHELL - RED MITCHELL / TONI HARPER

Stars of Jazz would win numerous awards during its two and a half year run on television.  When the program went to national broadcast on April 18, 1958, the critics in New York lavished more praise on the series than had been generated by local Los Angeles critics (so much for west coast bias!).

The article below from the September 21, 1956, issue of TV Radio LIFE profiles the series host, Bobby Troup.  Troup was the perfect choice as he had a solid musician background and could interact with visiting musicians on a personal and professional level.
